Abstract

This article analyses the relevance of Socratic thinking in contemporary people management, emphasising the role of dialogue, virtue and self-knowledge as the foundations of ethical leadership. Using a documentary methodology, philosophical, historical and management sources were reviewed to examine Socrates' contributions and their impact on talent development, ethical decision-making and leadership training. The results show that maieutics favours the creation of learning environments, the identification of individual talents, the reflective evaluation of performance, and the construction of organisational cultures based on transparency and responsibility. Likewise, it is evident that the classical virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance, together with emotional and rational competencies, remain key to team management and responsible governance. The study acknowledges, however, limitations and challenges to the implementation of the Socratic approach, linked to utilitarian pressures, cognitive biases, and cultural resistance. It concludes that leadership training should systematically incorporate Socratic philosophy, emotional intelligence, and ethical communication in order to humanise organisational management and guide decisions towards the common good.
